Putney Westerfield's Trip Reports

West Africa - February/March 1971

Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria

Why visit all those unimportant little countries? Perhaps the romanticism of the great Sahara desert, Mopti and Timbuktu. Most certainly the seaports from whence came hundreds of thousands of slaves. How were colonial powers still retaining overarching influence? How were the “democracies” faring.
